Money saving tip of the day.

If you use liquid soap, it is actually cheaper to by the big refill size. It cost more at the time of purchase but it is 56 oz. to where the single bottle is 7.5 oz. The refill costs around $4.00. The single size costs $1.00 if not on sale. You can fill 7 1/2 bottles for $4.00. If you buy single bottles they would cost you $8.00.

The difference a few stickers can make.

I have had this set of canisters for years. Each holiday I would decorate them with window clings . LOL.
Well, now the chalkboard canisters are "in." I love the looks but I didn't love the prices!

So, I went on a mission to find the chalkboard sticker labels and guess what?

Found them! They were at Walmart hanging where the caniters are.

Isn't it amazing what a few stickers can do? They look like new canisters.

Homemade hot chocolate, saves time and money.

Homemade hot chocolate

3 1/2 cups sugar

2 1/4 cups cocoa
1 tablespoon table salt
Milk for mixing

In a fairly large bowl mix with whisk sugar, cocoa, and salt. Mix a little while to make sure it is good and mixed. Store in an airtight container. I printed the directions and taped it to the jar as you can see in the picture below.

To make....
For single cups put 1 cup of milk in microwave for 1 1/2 minutes. Be careful it will be hot. If you are giving this to children you may want to cut the time back a little. Add 2 tablespoons of cocoa mix to the cup of milk and stir. you can also put mini marshmallows on top too if you would like.

For a family size batch....
warm the milk in a saucepan, don't let it get hot enough to biol.Add 2 tablespoons of cocoa mix per cup of milk. Enjoy!

This would be a great Christmas gift for the person who has everything, or for children. Mix and put it in a mason jar and decorate with ribbons, greenery, jingle bells or whatever. You could print the recipe on a pretty card and tie it n the jar. Or for a whole family gift you could double or triple batch it and give each family member a Christmas mug. Put all of it in a decorated basket and you have a gift that everyone would love to get.

What a neat idea for coffee canisters

My daughter would have loved this when she was little. Folgers has a page where you can go and print out covers for your old Folgers cans.  There is one for most all holidays. These would be so good to store blocks, army men or crayons in. Or you could use them for hiliday canisters. There is even a blank design so you can design your own. Check it out here.

Folgers.com also has some great Apps for your smartphone....

Homemade washing powders

O.K. I was really skeptical about this one! I just got one of the ingredients a week, then when I had them all I mixed it up. It smells so good and cleans as good as any I have used.

Homemade Laundry Detergent Recipe.

I found all these ingredients at my local Wal Mart on the detergent aisle. The prices is what they were at my Wal Mart.

1 (4lb. 12oz.)- Box of 20 Muleteam Borax...$3.97

1 (3lb. 7oz.)- Box of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda....$3.97 (I thik I forgot to write that one down.)

1 (3lb.)- Container of OxyClean...$7.52

2 (14.1 oz.)-bars of either Zoat or Fels Naptha...$.97

1 (4lb.)-box of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda....$2.24.

1-2 (55oz.) Bottles of Purex Crystals  Fabric Softner....scent of your choice....$4.76

1 large dishpan or bucket for mixing. At least an 18qt. size.

(1.)  You can grate the soap or microwave and crumble. I chose to microwave. Cut up bar in 5 pieces. Put on a microwaveable safe plate and microwave for 1.45 minutes.

(2.)  Mix all ingredients up, mix really well. Save the empty to store the detergent in.

(3.) If some of the soap is hard to crumble put those pieces back in for 1 min.

For normal loads use only 2 Tablespoons. For super dirty/greasy loads use 4 Tablespoons.

Finally a tip that works

Ok ladies, lets see the hands. How many are guilty of trying things they see on Facebook?
I am the worst, sometimes it's a flop sometimes not. This one was a keeper...

The next time you clean your fridge line the shelves with Glad Press and Seal. Now when they get dirty, I just peel it off and put on a new one. Nomore cleaning out the fridge! There will be some light wipoing down on the sides but no more pulling out shelves!

Snuggle hands down. The towels are a lot softer. I have used both and Snuggle does a lot better for line dried clothes.

Do you suffer with mouth sores?

This stuff is great. One day of treatment and the sore went away. I found it at Wal Mart in the aisle with the ambesol.

You have to try this...Canyon Casserole. It is so good.

Tried something new for dinner. It was really good, thought some of you may want to try it.

Canyon Casserole

1lb. ground beef
1 (1oz.) pkg taco seasoning mix
1 (14.5oz) can of diced tomatoes, un-drained
1 7oz. can whole corn, drained
1/2 cup water
1 lg. egg
1 cup corn meal
1/2 cup milk
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Heat oven to 400 degrees. coat a 8x8 baking dish or shallow 2qt. casserole dish with cooking spray.
Brown beef and drain. stir in taco seasoning, tomatoes, corn and water. Bring to biol. Pour into baking dish. Beat egg in small bowl. Stir in corn meal, milk, oil, until blended. Stir in cheese. Pour batter over ground beef.
Bake 30-35 minutes until browned.
Makes 6 servings.

I used the fancy shredded but I think the regular shredded would have been better. I think next time I am also going to add onions and maybe some green peppers.

Hope you enjoy it.

Do you use Charmin. I found something better.

I just happened to be in the Dollar General Market and didn't want to drive across town so I picked up their brand of toilet paper. It is just as good as Charmin and this 9 roll package was only $4.50. They have the soft blue package too .
